This page is intended to assist Enquire librarians when providing reference to US patrons, in those areas which differ between the two locations, such as local government and educational systems.

 

Education

While this site is aimed at immigrant parents, it does provide a brief overview of how the US edcuational system is organized.  This can be helpful when trying to determine what level of information to provide to patrons.  For specific homework help sites, please see the Homework Help pages in this wiki (links in the sidebar).

This site is run by a Florida nonprofit dedicated to providing easy access to government sites at all levels.  A clickable map lets you choose your state, which then lists the branches of the state government, followed by county and city government links.

Provides quick links by state to all branches of the state government, county and city governments, boards and commissions and other topics of interest.  There is also a drop down search engine menu on the left.

Site with extensive list of British words and their meanings in American English. Divided into categories such as Slang, People, Motoring, etc.

As well as a dictionary in which you can search British or American words and get the equivalent in the other, this site has fascinating articles on the differences between the two.
