FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service http://familysearch.org/ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' (aka Mormon or LDS) genealogical site has a search engine that looks through records of over 35 million names in its Ancestral File, over 360 million names in the International Genealogical Index (Britain, North America, and Finland), and the Family History Library Catalog with records from more than 2 millions rolls of microfilm, as well as thousands of indexed Web sites. Aimed at librarians who would like to help patrons doing genealogical research, this site has a basic guide to research and links to various types of resources, both print and online.

Organization is by county and state, and this website provides you with links to all the state genealogy websites which, in turn, provide gateways to the counties. The USGenWeb Project also sponsors important Special Projects at the national level and this website provides an entry point to all of those pages, as well. Run by volunteers.
